Software Tester

The Software Tester is a key individual in the software testing and quality control of electronic gaming machines (EGDs), video lottery games and responsible gaming products, and is responsible for designing and developing software test deliverables for new and modified games, EGDs, and responsible gaming products in accordance with Techlink’s, customer’s and jurisdictional requirements. Reporting to the Manager, Product Testing and QA, he/she works closely with other members of the Game Concepts and Game Development teams, the Platforms team, Hardware Engineering, Technical Communications, and with the Responsible Gaming teams.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reviews software requirements, architect designs, software designs, documentation and deliverables from other Techlink departments, customers and jurisdictions.
  • Responsible for creating software test plans and test cases for the products at Techlink, including electronic gaming devices, video lottery games, and responsible gaming products in accordance with Techlink’s, customer’s and jurisdictional requirements.
  • Perform testing for these products in accordance with Techlink’s documented processes, procedures and checklists. This includes; test planning, setups, test cases, informal testing, formal testing verification and validation, and working with third party test labs.
  • Creates ideas for innovative ways and methods for improving test times and efficiencies and communicating such to his/her manager for possible development or implementation by others in the company.
  • Evaluate and apply 3rd party test and automation tools for testing Techlink systems.
  • Develop test scripts and applications for debugging and exercising software products and databases.
  • Participates in the requirements development, documentation and testing of specific sub-programs that aid in testing, testing productivity of the Techlink product software including; utilities, debuggers, forensic analysis, etc.
  • Prepares Testing Compliance Reports in accordance with the appropriate requirements.
  • Documents and controls in accordance with the Controlled Document procedures; completed test cases, compliance checklists, and other testing deliverables, ready for inspection by internal and third party auditors.
  • Attend relevant meetings on requirements specifications, quality assurance and testing.
  • Becomes knowledgeable and proficient in using various Testing Toolkits, and testing jigs relevant to the particular testing requirement, ex. GPoll 3, SAS Toolkit, etc.
  • Participates in regular department status meetings, keeping in mind the need to adhere to deadlines.
  • Assists in the creation of the Techlink Software Testing Guidelines and Standards.
  • Captures and documents possible product changes and ensures all team members are aware of approved changes.
  • Provides “Weekly Reports”, and Monthly Summary Reports, to the Manager, Product Testing and QA.
  • Assists the Manager, Product Testing and QA in producing detailed work schedules consistent with agreed start and finish date, which will map out phases of production.
  • Monitors and records time spent and resources affected on the projects.
  • May participate in developmental code reviews, developmental code testing and Software Reviews for final sign-offs.
  • Adheres to company policies and procedures.
  • Maintains up-to-date industry knowledge related to the profession.
  • Under the direction of the Manager, Product Testing and QA, will become a temporary backup person to assist the Configuration Management Specialist when priorities require it.

  • In possession of a valid Nova Scotia Driving License.
  • In possession of or able to obtain a valid passport.

Work Environment:

  • Works in a typical office environment with appropriate product for testing close by.
  • Domestic and International travel may be required and he/she will present themselves in a professional manner that is not detrimental to the organization or its objectives.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Computer Science Degree, or equivalent combination of post secondary education and experience.
  • At least 3 years in software coding experience with excellent knowledge in programming principles and languages, (ex. C++, C#, SQL, Perl, scripting).
  • Experience working with Windows XP and Linux operating systems.
  • At least 3 years industry experience in working with electronic gaming machines.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite applications.
  • Knowledge of Visual Studio C++.
  • Proficiency in working with software testing tools.
  • Proficiency in working with configuration management tools.
  • Proficiency in working with bug tracking tools.
  • Proficiency in Testing Tools and Jigs, where appropriate, ex. GPoll3, SAS Toolkit, etc.
  • Knowledge of .NET is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Oracle is an asset.
